Lunch with Bruno
I took my new camera to lunch the other day in the hope I might take some sweet Christmas shots of my friend's 11 month old, Bruno. My first insight into children's portraiture is that it is not easy! The main reason for this is of course, little children do not sit still. Selfishly neither do they appreciate nor even acknowledge the task in hand.
With my camera set to manual again (although I was tempted on several occasions to just switch it to one of it's very clever auto functions), I set about getting the f number, the iso and the shutter speed to a place where I would actually see a photograph on my screen rather than a sea of murky blackness, or a bright white page interspersed with the odd dab of colour here and there.
One of our favourite lunchspots is down by Newhaven Harbour in Edinburgh, the lighthouse of which you can see in the background. I will take some nighttime shots of this soon. It is very easy to drift off and forget you are indeed in the capital city, even easier to spend a whole day staring out to sea.
Bruno did his best to smile for me as much as possible in between sleeping, sneezing and eating his delightful yet unidentifiable 'chicken curry' that had emerged from a baby food sachet. He is undoubtedly already a very cultured young chap. The results are by no means indicative of how many shots we had to take! What a yummy mummy and gorgeous model.
